BraveX.Aero, a startup from Cluj specializing in fixed-wing industrial drones with extended autonomy, aims to expand production and aims to become one of the European leaders in the field by 2030 Increasing drone production capacity 7 times in the next three years

  • BraveX drones achieve a flight autonomy of four hours and a range of 250 km, significantly exceeding the performance of standard multirotors
  • They are designed to be used in critical missions such as mountain rescue, border surveillance and air transport of equipment in hard-to-reach areas
  • The company attracted 315,000 euros in funding from investors from the Transylvania Angels Network this year and is targeting a new round of funding
  • BraveX management aims to attract customers from the defense sector of NATO member countries
  • The company develops the technology in Romania, reduces dependence on Asian suppliers and prepares new R&D partnerships for applications in difficult environments

Cluj Napoca, July 23, 2025 – Cluj-based startup BraveX Aero aims to become one of the leading European manufacturers of industrial drones with extended autonomy and high flight capacity by 2030.

The company already operates an active production line near Cluj-Napoca and plans to reach a volume of 500 units delivered annually by 2028.

BraveX is one of the few European companies that develops both fixed-wing drones and vertical take-off (VTOL) drones, a complex aeronautical architecture, at the frontier of technological development in the field, essential for surveillance, mapping and rapid intervention missions.

BraveX drones are developed in Romania and are designed to be used in rescue missions, territorial surveillance, precision agriculture and light logistical transport.

The company’s models achieve a flight duration of up to four hours and an operational range of 250 kilometers, performances that significantly exceed the usual specifications of multirotor drones (copter type), which generally operate under 90 minutes and over distances of up to 20-30 kilometers.

“We started technical research and development activity in 2020, and in the first three years we managed to strengthen the technical team, build the first prototypes and demonstrate technical capabilities in flight with specific missions. The technology is developed locally, from the design of the fuselage and the manufacture of structural components, to the integration of electronic systems and navigation software. Personally, I have been passionate about aeronautics since the age of seven, a pilot since the age of 17, and I am glad that I can apply my knowledge and passion in such a company with a strong mission.” Rareș Răcoțean, founder / Chief Technical Officer and R&D Lead

Drone production capacity to increase 7-fold in the next three years

Current production capacity exceeds 70 units per year, with all stages performed locally, from design and software integration to testing and delivery. Management plans to increase production to 500 units delivered annually by 2028.

The company’s portfolio includes five models: the electric version (HFP1), the electric vertical takeoff and landing model (VTOL-HFP2), the hybrid HFP3, the jet-powered model (VIMANA) and the HFP-LS, a specialized drone for rescue missions in difficult-to-reach mountainous areas, where quadcopter drones are ineffective.

“We aim to become one of the leading European suppliers in the production of fixed-wing and VTOL drones by 2030. We have functional products, field-tested, including in difficult conditions, and, most importantly, honored contracts. The company’s mission is to contribute to the protection of people, environmental monitoring and saving lives. I decided to join the team of investors and take an active role in a company that is part of a fascinating industry, alongside an exceptional team.” Răzvan Costea-Bărluțiu, investor / Chief Executive Officer in BraveX
“More and more government actors tend to avoid using components from Asia, due to the difficult economic climate in that part of the world. Focusing on European manufacturers thus becomes a necessity, contributing both to increasing their long-term competitiveness and to strengthening security in the European space.” Iulia Oprea, Chief Legal & Regulations Officer BraveX

BraveX collaborates in research and development partnerships, including in AI technologies for navigation in GPS-denied environments and in systems for simultaneous control of fleets of fixed-wing drones – an advanced functionality with potential for application in monitoring very large areas.

“The company also aims to develop through strategic partnerships with Romanian and European companies, in critical areas such as state border monitoring, environmental protection, search and rescue operations, emergency medical transport and defense of cities against air attacks.” Mircea Vădan, Investor and Business Development Manager
